Urth 77mm Variable ND2 400 + ¼ Black Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 77mm Variable ND2 400 + ¼ Black Mist Filter Plus+ | Shape exposure and soften highlights
Without a filter, managing bright light and giving highlights a softer look usually means choosing between exposure control and a creative effect. This Urth combines variable ND filtration with a ¼ Black Mist effect, so it brings both into one filter. The variable ND range lets you reduce the light reaching the lens, which can help when you want a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture in bright conditions. The Black Mist element adds a gentle diffusion look, softening the appearance of highlights. It suits photographers and filmmakers who want to shape exposure while adding that atmospheric finish, rather than keeping every scene crisp and neutral. The 77mm size is the key fit detail: it’s intended for lenses that take a 77mm filter. It’s a creative tool, though, so the mist effect won’t suit every subject or style.
Specialist Note
Can this Urth filter control daylight and add a misted look at the same time? Yes—that’s the point of combining variable ND2–400 with ¼ Black Mist. For bright-day video, adjust the ND strength to cut incoming light while keeping the softer highlight character; for a portrait, the ¼ diffusion gives bright areas a gentler feel without asking you to add another filter. I’d consider it for someone who wants exposure control and a deliberate, slightly dreamy rendering in the same setup. Just bear in mind that Black Mist changes the image’s character, so it’s less suited to work where you want highlights to stay completely crisp.
