Kase Revolution Plus ND64 82mm | Six stops for longer exposures
Kase’s magnetic mounting system is about quick changes: the included inlaid ring gives the Revolution Plus ND64 82mm a fast way on and off the lens. This 82mm neutral density filter cuts light by six stops, so you can use longer shutter times or a wider aperture when the available light would otherwise prevent it. For flowing water, that reduction makes a longer exposure possible; for a portrait in bright conditions, it gives you more scope to open the aperture. Kase uses Wolverine glass, with impact resistance for the knocks a filter can pick up in a camera bag. Colour control matters with a strong ND filter, too: the Revolution Plus has IR coatings intended to keep tones neutral rather than introduce a cast. A yellow edge makes the filter easy to spot among your kit, while its oil-, dirt- and water-repellent coating is useful around changing weather and busy shooting locations.
In the field
- Six-stop light reduction: ND64 cuts the light reaching the sensor by six stops. That gives you a clear exposure adjustment for long shutter speeds or a wider aperture.
- Magnetic attachment: The filter mounts magnetically using the included inlaid ring. It can be attached or removed quickly when the light or your approach changes.
- Neutral colour control: Kase’s IR coatings are intended to maintain neutral colour, an important consideration when a long exposure could otherwise show a colour cast.
- Wolverine glass: The glass is described as impact-resistant and highly durable. That extra resilience is reassuring when you’re carrying the filter between locations.
- Protective coatings and yellow edge: The surface repels oil, dirt and water, and has a mildew-resistant coating. The yellow rim also makes the filter easier to pick out in your bag.
Specialist Note
The magnetic fitting keeps setup simple: attach the included ring, then place the filter on it when you’re ready to cut the light. I’d recommend this fixed six-stop strength to landscape photographers working with moving water; fit it before extending the exposure, and the water can record with a softer look while the rest of the scene stays exposed. It’s also useful for portraits in strong daylight when you want a wider aperture than the light allows. The Wolverine glass adds welcome resilience in a filter bag. Just bear in mind that ND64 is a fixed reduction, rather than an adjustable one.
