Meike 50mm f/1.8 AF STM Lens FullFrame L Mount
Meike 50mm f/1.8 AF STM Lens FullFrame L Mount | A bright, natural standard view
Rather than switching focal lengths as a scene changes, a 50mm prime gives you one familiar view to work with. The Meike 50mm f/1.8 AF STM is an interchangeable standard lens for Leica L mount, with autofocus for everyday shooting. Its 50mm focal length suits street scenes and travel details, while also giving portraits a natural-looking perspective. It’s a good fit for photographers who want a straightforward prime for people and places, rather than a lens built around a specialised angle of view. On a full-frame camera, 50mm is a useful middle ground: wide enough to include some surroundings, yet focused enough to make your subject the centre of attention. The lens is also suited to portrait work, where you can step back a little and include more of the setting. If you enjoy making deliberate framing choices, this is a simple focal length to build a day of pictures around.
Specialist Note
“Will f/1.8 make a real difference for portraits?” Yes: it gives you room to use a wider aperture when the light is low, and to keep attention on your subject with the background less prominent. The full-frame format pairs naturally with this 50mm view for portraits that include a little of the surroundings, rather than feeling tightly cropped. For a travel portrait, try f/1.8 when you want your subject to read clearly against a busy scene; for a street moment, stop down if you want more of the scene in focus. I’d think of it as a focused everyday prime, not a zoom substitute when you need several framings quickly. It suits anyone happy to compose with one fixed view.
