Laowa Proteus Zoom 26-45 & 45-85mm Bayonet - Nikon Z (VEIB2645ZOOMNZ)
Laowa Proteus Zoom 26-45 & 45-85mm Bayonet - Nikon Z (VEIB2645ZOOMNZ) | Two zoom ranges for considered cinema framing
The defining decision is to pair two zooms in one kit, giving a production a broad span of focal lengths across separate lenses. Their ranges meet at 45mm, covering 26–85mm between them. That suits Nikon Z crews who want options for moving from wider scene framing to tighter compositions without relying on a single zoom. This is an interchangeable cinema lens kit with manual focus, so it’s aimed at operators who plan their shots and want to manage focus themselves. It makes sense for narrative work, interviews and other controlled setups where framing and focus can be adjusted deliberately. The trade-off is straightforward: manual focus calls for an attentive operator, particularly when a subject moves. If that’s part of your workflow, this kit gives you two useful zoom ranges to work with on a Nikon Z camera.
Specialist Note
On a planned set, having two zoom ranges makes it easy to choose a framing approach before you roll. I’d use the 26–45mm zoom to establish a room or keep more of a scene in frame, then reach for the 45–85mm zoom when you want a closer interview composition. The Nikon Z bayonet keeps the kit specific to that camera mount, and manual focus means the operator stays responsible for each focus adjustment. That’s a good fit for controlled pulls and marked positions, but less suited to a setup where you expect autofocus to track a moving subject. I’d recommend it to crews who value deliberate focus work.
