Westcott Scrim Jim 72x72 L Silver/White Reflec 182.8x182.8

Westcott Scrim Jim 72x72 L Silver/White Reflec 182.8x182.8 | Add controlled reflected light

Shadows can look less heavy in your pictures when you bounce light back onto your subject. The Westcott Scrim Jim is a large silver-and-white reflector screen for photographers who want to shape that fill themselves, rather than leave dark areas untouched. Its 72 × 72 size gives you a broad surface to work with in portrait or product setups, on location or in a studio. Choose the side that suits the light you’re working with, then adjust the screen’s position until the effect looks right in the frame. It’s a straightforward tool, but the result depends on placement: a small change in angle can alter where the reflected light lands. At 182.8 × 182.8 cm, it takes up real space, so it’s best suited to setups where you can position a large panel around your subject.

Using the reflector

Think of the screen as a way to redirect light that’s already available. Place it where it can catch light and return some of it toward the subject; then check the image and move it until the shadows are lifted to your liking. You don’t need to change your camera settings just to try a different position, which makes it easy to compare results as you work. For a portrait, that can help bring more detail into the darker side of a face. For a product, it can help you adjust how much light reaches areas that would otherwise fall into shadow. The panel’s square format gives you a generous area to aim, though it can be awkward in a cramped room. If you’re working in a tight space, plan where it will sit before you begin.
