H&Y K-Series ND1000 HD MRC 95mm Drop-In Filter
H&Y K-Series ND1000 HD MRC 95mm Drop-In Filter | Make daylight exposures longer
Bright daylight can leave you with little room to lengthen a shutter speed, even when you want moving water or clouds to blur into a softer shape. The H&Y K-Series ND1000 HD MRC 95mm Drop-In Filter cuts the light reaching your camera so you can use a much longer exposure in bright conditions. ND1000 is roughly a ten-stop reduction: as a guide, an exposure of 1/125 sec without the filter becomes about 8 sec with it, at the same aperture and ISO. That makes it suited to photographers who want deliberate motion blur rather than a frozen moment, especially with flowing water or shifting clouds. It’s a specialist strength, not an everyday filter; the heavy light reduction means you’ll need to plan your exposure around the scene. The drop-in format is made for use within H&Y’s K-Series filter system, so it’s relevant if that’s already how you work.
Specialist Note
An ND1000 is a big reduction in light, so it’s not the filter I’d reach for when I need to compose and react quickly. It earns its place when you want a genuinely long exposure in daylight. The 95mm size matters because this is a specific drop-in filter for the H&Y K-Series system, rather than a screw-on filter to choose by lens thread. For a stream, meter first without the filter, then use the ten-stop reduction as a starting point: 1/125 sec becomes about 8 sec, which gives water time to blur. It suits patient landscape work, provided you’re happy to plan the exposure.
