Urth 95mm ND64 (6 Stop) Lens Filter Pro
Urth 95mm ND64 (6 Stop) Lens Filter Pro | Longer exposures in bright light
Water can take on a smoother, flowing look, and moving clouds can blur across the frame, even when the daylight is strong. The Urth 95mm ND64 is a neutral-density filter that reduces the light reaching your camera, giving you room to use a slower shutter speed without simply overexposing the image. It’s suited to photographers who want more control over movement in a scene, especially when they can’t wait for dimmer light. The 95mm size is for a lens with a matching 95mm filter thread. Use it for a considered long exposure of a river or waterfall, or to add motion blur to clouds; the effect depends on your starting exposure and how much movement is in the scene. It’s a straightforward tool for changing exposure in-camera, rather than relying on a computer to create the blur later.
Specialist Note
A common first try with an ND filter is to leave the shutter speed unchanged and wonder why the picture looks darker; the point here is to use the reduced light to make a deliberate exposure adjustment. ND64 means six stops of light reduction, so if your unfiltered exposure is 1/60 sec, you can move to about 1 sec at the same aperture and ISO. That’s a useful starting point for giving a small waterfall a softer appearance; use a tripod for that shutter speed. The 95mm filter size suits a lens with a 95mm thread, so it’s worth matching that size to the lens you plan to use. It’s aimed at photographers who want visible motion blur, though a six-stop reduction won’t suit every lighting level or subject.
