SMDV Honey Comb Grid 330mm 20DEG For RBM330

SMDV Honey Comb Grid 330mm 20DEG For RBM330 | More controlled light

Light spilling beyond your subject can make a setup harder to manage, especially when you want the background or nearby areas to stay subdued. The SMDV Honey Comb Grid is a 330mm grid with a 20-degree angle, made for the RBM330. It gives you a more directed way to use the light from that setup, helping keep illumination focused rather than spreading broadly. That makes it relevant when you’re shaping a portrait, product image or another scene where stray light is distracting. It’s a straightforward accessory with a specific role: narrowing the spread of light, not changing the character of your subject or replacing careful placement. If you already use an RBM330 and want tighter control over where its light falls, this is the part to consider. The 20-degree angle is the key detail; it points to a more concentrated spread than an open softbox alone.

When a grid helps

A grid is useful when the direction of the light matters as much as its brightness. You can use it to keep illumination on the area you’ve chosen, rather than letting it wash across the whole scene. That can help when you’re working close to a background, trying to keep light off part of a subject, or aiming for a more contained pool of light. The effect depends on the position of the light and the scene, so small adjustments to placement still matter. This isn’t an accessory for making a broad, even spread broader; its purpose is to limit that spread. The honeycomb form gives the light a defined direction, while the 20-degree specification gives you a clear reference when deciding whether this tighter beam suits your setup. For work where you want light to reach beyond the subject, a grid may be too restrictive. For a controlled setup with the RBM330, it offers a simple way to manage spill.
