7Artisans 75mm f/1.4 - FullFrame - L-Mount - Black
7Artisans 75mm f/1.4 - FullFrame - L-Mount - Black | Intimate portraits with selective focus
Portraits feel close without requiring you to crowd your subject, and event details can be framed with a calm, considered perspective. The 7Artisans 75mm f/1.4 is a manual-focus short telephoto prime for full-frame Leica L-mount cameras. Its 75mm focal length and 32° angle of view suit head-and-shoulders portraits, performers and people at an event, keeping attention on your subject rather than a broad scene. The f/1.4 maximum aperture gives you room to work with shallow depth of field and available light. Focus is set by hand, so this lens rewards deliberate placement rather than rushed shooting. It’s a strong fit for portrait makers and event photographers who want to choose exactly where the viewer’s attention lands.
Think of it as a lens for selective framing, not for recording an entire room in one shot. At an event, use it for a speaker, a guest or a detail, and adjust your position to refine the composition. For portraits, leave enough working distance to talk naturally while keeping your subject prominent. Because focus is manual, give yourself a moment to focus before an important expression; fast, unpredictable action can be harder to follow.
Specialist Note
First-time owners of a fast portrait lens can treat f/1.4 as the setting for every frame; I’d use it as an option, not a rule. At f/1.4, focus needs careful placement, so for a seated portrait I’d take time to focus on the nearer eye and check the result before moving on. For event portraits, try around 1/250 sec to help keep people sharp, then adjust ISO to suit the light. The 75mm view works nicely when you want a person to fill the frame without standing right beside them. The honest trade-off is manual focus: it asks for more attention when moments are fleeting.
