Apple Lightning To USB 3 Camera Adapter
Apple Lightning To USB 3 Camera Adapter | Import camera files to iPad Pro
Apple’s Lightning-to-USB 3 connection brings a camera’s files straight to a compatible iPad Pro, with USB 3 transfer speeds on selected models. The Apple Lightning To USB 3 Camera Adapter is for iPad Pro owners who want to bring photos and videos into the Photos app, rather than leave them on the camera. It also supports JPEG and RAW images, so you can import either format when your camera records them. For video, supported formats include H.264 and MPEG-4, covering both SD and HD video structures. Another use is connecting USB peripherals to an iPad Pro through the adapter. The Lightning connection is central to its role: this is an Apple camera adapter for moving files from a camera to an iPad Pro, with the option to connect a USB power adapter and extend what you can connect. It keeps the camera-to-tablet workflow focused on familiar formats and Apple’s Photos app.
What it does
- Opens Photos for import: Connect the adapter and the Photos app opens automatically on iPad Pro. You can choose which photos and videos to import, then find them organised in albums.
- Handles common image formats: JPEG and RAW are supported. That matters when you want to bring camera files into the iPad workflow without limiting the transfer to JPEG images alone.
- Supports SD and HD video: The adapter works with H.264 and MPEG-4 video structures. You can use it to import supported video files alongside your still photographs.
- Connects USB peripherals: Use the adapter to attach USB peripherals to an iPad Pro. Connecting a USB power adapter to the camera adapter also extends its possibilities for USB use.
- Different transfer speeds by model: The 12.9-inch iPad Pro (1st and 2nd generation) and 10.5-inch iPad Pro transfer at USB 3 speeds. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro uses USB 2 speeds.
Specialist Note
Connect the adapter to a supported iPad Pro and the Photos app opens for import; that direct hand-off keeps camera files moving into the tablet workflow. I recommend it to iPad Pro owners who want to bring a camera’s photos and video into Photos, or attach a USB peripheral to their tablet. For faster transfers, the 12.9-inch 1st- or 2nd-generation model and the 10.5-inch model use USB 3 speeds. The 9.7-inch model transfers at USB 2 speeds, so the model makes a difference. You can also connect a USB power adapter to expand USB use. It’s a focused adapter for the listed iPad Pro models.
