B+W 103 MRC ND Gray 72
B+W 103 MRC ND Gray 72 | Create longer exposures in bright light
Longer shutter times can turn moving water into a softer blur and give passing clouds more movement in a landscape. The B+W 103 MRC ND Gray is a neutral-density filter: it reduces the light reaching your lens, giving you room to use a slower shutter speed when the scene is bright. It’s suited to photographers who want more control over exposure outdoors, especially for landscapes, architecture and other scenes where movement in the frame is part of the picture. You can also use an ND filter to work with a wider aperture in bright conditions. The result depends on the scene and your exposure settings, so think of the filter as extra control rather than a preset look. It’s a straightforward tool for shaping how motion and light appear in your photographs.
Specialist Note
72 mm is the filter diameter, so in practice you’ll want a lens with a matching 72 mm filter thread. The 103 code matters too: use it to identify this particular ND filter rather than choosing by diameter alone. I’d consider it for daylight scenes where a slower shutter can blur a stream or soften movement in clouds; a tripod helps keep the stationary parts of the image sharp during a longer exposure. It can also give you more room to choose a wider aperture in bright light. The honest caveat is that an ND filter reduces light, but the result still depends on your exposure settings and the scene.
