B+W Black Mist 1/8 MRC Nano V-PRO 77mm
B+W Black Mist 1/8 MRC Nano V-PRO 77mm | Gentle highlight bloom
Give bright highlights a gentle bloom and soften the crispness of a scene without making the whole image look heavily diffused. The B+W Black Mist 1/8 MRC Nano V-PRO 77mm is a subtle-effect filter for photographers and filmmakers who want that look in the image itself. Its 1/8 strength keeps the effect restrained, making it a good fit for portraits, close-up details and scenes with point lights where you want a softer highlight character. Try it with backlit subjects or practical lights in the frame, where the glow becomes part of the picture rather than something added later. The 77mm size is for lenses with a matching 77mm filter thread. This is a creative filter for changing how highlights render, not a neutral-density filter for reducing exposure or enabling slower shutter speeds in bright conditions. Choose it for a controlled, gentle mist effect; if you want a pronounced, foggy look, this strength may be too subtle.
Specialist Note
Harsh pinpoints of light or very crisp skin can make a frame feel sharper than you want; this filter gives you a gentle way to soften that impression. I’d consider it for a backlit portrait or a night scene with lamps in the frame: the 1/8 strength keeps the effect measured, so the glow doesn’t have to dominate the picture. For a stronger misty look, this may feel too restrained. The 77mm size is useful when your lens has a matching 77mm filter thread, so you can choose it for that specific lens setup. It’s a considered creative effect, rather than a tool for changing exposure.
