Caruba StepUp/Down Ring 37mm - 46mm
Caruba StepUp/Down Ring 37mm - 46mm: Fit a larger filter to your lens
Caruba StepUp/Down Ring 37mm - 46mm connects a lens with the smaller filter size to a filter with the larger one. It’s for photographers who have a filter that doesn’t match the size of their lens and want to use that filter on it. The ring handles the size difference; the filter you attach is what you choose for the photograph. A UV filter, an ND filter or a polarising filter are all examples of filters you can mount with this ring. That makes it useful when one of those filters is already in your kit, but its diameter doesn’t match the lens you want to use. The key detail is the specific pairing named in the product: a smaller lens-side size and a larger filter-side size. It’s a simple, focused accessory for connecting those two sizes, with no separate filter effect of its own. Choose it for that exact fit, and for the filter you intend to attach.
In the field
- Smaller lens-side size: The ring connects to the lens at the smaller end of the pairing. That makes the intended lens size clear when you’re choosing an adapter.
- Larger filter-side size: The opposite side takes the larger filter. The two ends bridge the mismatch between the lens and the filter.
- UV filter use: Attach a compatible UV filter when that’s the filter you want on the lens. The ring provides the size connection between them.
- ND filter use: An ND filter is another option for this adapter. It allows you to use a filter of the stated larger size on a lens with the stated smaller size.
- Polarising filter use: A compatible polarising filter can also be mounted through the ring. The adapter connects the sizes; the attached filter is the part selected for the photograph.
Specialist Note
At the counter, a lens and a polarising filter sit together, but their sizes don’t match. That’s where this ring earns its place: fit it between the lens and filter, and you can use that larger filter on the smaller lens size. I’d recommend it to someone who already owns a UV, ND or polarising filter in the matching larger size and wants to put it on this lens. For an ND filter, attach the filter through the ring when that’s the filter you’ve chosen for the shot; the ring itself doesn’t add an optical effect. It’s a specific size adapter, so the pairing needs to match.
