Caruba StepUp/Down Ring 40.5mm - 52mm
Caruba StepUp/Down Ring 40.5mm - 52mm | Bridge two filter sizes
Its job is simple: the Caruba StepUp/Down Ring bridges the 40.5mm and 52mm filter sizes, so you can adapt one size to the other instead of treating them as unrelated parts of your kit. It suits photographers whose lens and filter have different thread sizes and who want to make use of a filter they already own. For example, if your lens has a 40.5mm filter thread and the filter you want to use is 52mm, this ring provides the link between them. That makes it most useful when you want to share filters across equipment with those two sizes, rather than buy another filter just to match a thread. It’s a small, specific accessory, not a filter in its own right; the value is in connecting the sizes you have.
Specialist Note
The Caruba StepUp/Down Ring is a straightforward way to bridge a 40.5mm thread and a 52mm filter. The smaller size is the side that matches a lens with a 40.5mm filter thread; the larger size lets you attach a 52mm filter. That’s handy if you already own a filter in that size and want to use it on a lens with the smaller thread. I’d think of it as a practical adapter for a specific mismatch, not a way to change what a filter does. It only solves the thread-size difference, so it makes sense when those are the two sizes in your setup.
