Cokin Filter P133 Gradual Yellow Y2
Cokin Filter P133 Gradual Yellow Y2 | Add graduated yellow colour where you want it
Its defining choice is a yellow tint that fades gradually across the filter, rather than colouring the entire frame evenly. That lets you place warmth in one part of a composition while leaving the rest less affected. The Cokin Filter P133 Gradual Yellow Y2 suits photographers who want to shape colour in-camera, especially when a scene has a clear division between sky and land, or when one area calls for a deliberate warm cast. It’s best used as a considered colour accent: place the yellow portion over the region you want to tint, then check the balance in your composition before taking the picture. The result depends on the scene’s existing colours, so it won’t make every grey sky look golden or necessarily suit a scene that’s already warm. For selective colour, the gradual treatment is the point.
Specialist Note
In use, the yellow is confined to a graduated part of the frame, so you can warm a sky or a strip of distant landscape without putting the same colour over everything. That gradual transition is handy when a horizon crosses the scene: align the transition with the boundary, then check where the tint falls before shooting. I’d suggest it for muted skies or for a deliberately warm accent in a carefully composed image. The Yellow Y2 name tells you the colour treatment, but the final effect still depends on the colours already in the scene. If you want an even yellow cast across the whole picture, this graduated filter isn’t the right treatment.
