DZOFILM Arles 75mm FF/VV Prime Cine Lens - PL Mount (FT) - T1.4 for full-frame cinematography

A tightly framed line of dialogue or a portrait that needs a little distance from the camera is where the DZOFILM Arles 75mm FF/VV Prime Cine Lens earns its place. This short-telephoto prime covers full-frame sensors and uses a PL mount, with a fast T1.4 maximum aperture for working in subdued light and keeping focus selective. Its 32° angle of view gives the frame a close, composed feel, well suited to character close-ups, interview shots and carefully framed details in a film scene. Manual focus keeps the operator in charge of transitions and focus placement, rather than handing that work to autofocus. The lens is made for video and filmmaking, and its cine-style controls are intended for measured adjustments during a take. Use it for a portrait where the background should sit quietly behind the subject, a dialogue close-up that needs a more intimate perspective, or an insert of an object that deserves its own frame. The PL mount makes it a fit for a PL-mount camera setup, while the full-frame coverage supports larger-format production workflows. This is a dedicated prime rather than a zoom: framing changes call for camera repositioning or a lens change, in return for a fixed focal length and a bright maximum aperture. For a crew building a matched set of cine primes, its shared gear and exterior dimensions across the Arles range are particularly useful when changing focal lengths between setups.

What the glass does

  • 13 elements in 9 groups: The optical construction combines 13 elements across 9 groups. That gives the lens a substantial optical design for shaping the image across its full-frame coverage.
  • 16-blade iris: The iris uses 16 blades to form out-of-focus highlights. This matters in close framing, where background points of light can become a visible part of the image.
  • 270° focus rotation: The focus ring travels through 270°, giving a focus puller a broad arc for deliberate adjustments. That measured turn is useful when a scene calls for a gradual, repeatable change of focus.
  • 82° iris-ring rotation: The aperture ring has an 82° rotation. Its shorter travel offers a direct, controlled way to adjust exposure while keeping attention on the take.
  • 0.8 MOD gears: Focus and iris are fitted with cine-style 0.8 MOD gearing. The geared controls work with compatible follow-focus and lens-control setups.
  • Consistent Arles dimensions: The Arles primes share gear positioning and exterior dimensions across focal lengths. That consistency makes a lens swap between setups more straightforward for a crew using the series.
  • 95mm outer diameter: The lens has a 95mm exterior diameter, a useful measurement when planning its place in a camera build and matte-box setup.
  • 86mm filter thread: An 86mm front filter thread provides a direct way to fit compatible screw-in filters. It also offers another filter option alongside a matte box.

Specialist Note

"A close-up can lose its intimacy when the camera has to crowd the subject, and this short-telephoto prime gives you a more considered working distance. I’d use it for a dialogue close-up or a restrained portrait: open the iris to T1.4 when you want the subject to separate from the setting, then place focus carefully on the eyes. The 270° focus-ring travel is useful for that kind of work, because it gives a focus pull room for a deliberate transition rather than a quick, cramped turn. For a reflective product insert, the 16-blade iris is a welcome detail when highlights fall out of focus. I see this lens suiting narrative crews and interview teams who want a manual-focus PL prime with a close framing style. One thing to plan around: its 32° view is too tight for broad establishing frames, so keep a wider lens in the kit for those shots."
