Formatt Hitech FC ND 105mm Graduated ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech FC ND 105mm Graduated ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter | Balance bright skies with darker foregrounds
The defining optical choice is a graduated ND 0.6: it reduces light by two stops across part of the image, helping bring a bright area closer in exposure to the rest of the scene. Formatt Hitech has made this for photographers who want to manage that difference in-camera rather than let a bright sky dominate an image. It suits landscape and architectural photography, especially scenes with a clear boundary between a bright sky and a darker foreground. The graduation lets you place the reduction where it’s needed while keeping the rest of the frame less affected. Its 105mm designation is part of the product name, so it’s worth keeping that number in mind when choosing a filter setup. This is a focused tool for modest exposure differences: the two-stop reduction can help with a bright horizon, but it won’t cover every high-contrast scene.
Specialist Note
At the coast just after sunrise, the sky can be much brighter than the water and shore below it. This filter’s graduated 0.6 density gives you a two-stop reduction in the brighter part of the frame, a measured correction that can preserve more balance across that view. I’d consider it for landscapes with a fairly clear horizon: position the graduation over the sky, then make your exposure with the foreground in mind. The 105mm designation is useful to keep in view when planning your filter arrangement. It suits photographers who want this specific, restrained amount of control; for a much larger brightness gap, two stops may not be enough.
