Formatt Hitech Firecrest 77mm Superslim UV IR Cut
Formatt Hitech Firecrest 77mm Superslim UV IR Cut | Filters UV and infrared light
Unwanted ultraviolet and infrared light can be a concern when you want one filter to address both. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest 77mm Superslim UV IR Cut is a UV filter with a combined UV- and IR-cut function, in a slim-profile design. It suits photographers who want to filter these wavelengths without reaching for separate filters for each. The 77mm size makes it relevant to lenses with a matching filter thread, so it’s important to match the filter size to the lens you plan to use it on. The Superslim format keeps the filter’s profile low, which may appeal if you prefer not to add a deeper filter setup. Its purpose is specific: filtering UV and infrared light. It isn’t a polariser or an ND filter, so it won’t provide those filters’ effects. For landscape and outdoor photography, it’s a considered option when a combined UV/IR-cut filter is what you need.
Specialist Note
For a 77mm lens you keep ready for outdoor landscapes, this is a straightforward way to add UV and IR cutting in one filter. The 77mm size means it’ll fit only a lens with that matching filter thread, so I’d check the number on the lens before choosing it. Its Superslim profile is useful if you want to keep the filter assembly low-profile rather than add a deeper one. I’d consider it for outdoor landscape or documentary work where filtering both UV and infrared light is the aim; fit it to the 77mm lens and compose as usual. Just bear in mind it won’t replace a polariser or ND filter when you want their particular effects.
