Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 62mm ND 1.8 (6stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 62mm ND 1.8 (6stops) Filter | Six stops for slower shutter speeds
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 62mm ND 1.8 (6stops) Filter reduces the light reaching your camera by six stops, giving you more room to use a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture. It’s for photographers who want to control exposure in bright conditions, especially when movement in a scene is part of the picture. Use it to soften the look of moving water or to show motion in a busy street; the six-stop reduction makes a substantial difference to your exposure settings. It can also help you keep a wider aperture when you want a shallower depth of field. The 62mm size is the key fit detail: it’s the filter’s stated diameter, so it needs to match the filter size on the lens you plan to use. If you’re after a specific long exposure, take a meter reading without the filter, then account for six stops when setting the shutter speed.
Specialist Note
Exposure shifts by six stops once this filter is in place, so it gives you a clear, predictable way to trade light for time. For moving water, take your unfiltered shutter speed and extend it by six stops; for example, 1/60 sec becomes about 1 sec. That’s a practical starting point for a softer, more flowing look. The ND 1.8 rating describes that strong light reduction, while the 62mm size tells you which lens filter diameter to match. I’d suggest it to someone who already knows the filter size they need and wants a straightforward six-stop reduction. It’s less suited to situations where you need only a small exposure adjustment.
