Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 67mm ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 67mm ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter | Slow your shutter in bright light
In bright daylight, you may want a slower shutter speed to show movement in water or clouds, but the light can make that difficult without changing your aperture. This Formatt Hitech Firecrest neutral-density filter reduces the light reaching the camera, giving you more room to choose a slower exposure. It suits photographers who want to control motion blur in landscapes, or who need to keep a chosen aperture while working in brighter conditions. The effect is straightforward: less light reaches the sensor, so you can lengthen the exposure or open the aperture without overexposing the image. That makes it especially useful when changing the scene’s lighting isn’t an option. It’s a simple, focused tool; it won’t create motion blur by itself, so you’ll still need to choose a shutter speed that suits the subject.
Specialist Note
This Firecrest filter gives you a measured two-stop reduction when stopping down would change the depth of field you want. Its 67 mm size is the key detail at the counter: it’s for a lens with a matching 67 mm filter thread. The ND 0.6 rating corresponds to two stops, so, for example, a reading of 1/125 sec can become about 1/30 sec at the same aperture and ISO. That’s a practical starting point for showing movement in a stream or passing clouds. I’d keep expectations sensible: two stops helps, but on its own it won’t turn bright midday into a very long exposure.
