Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 67mm ND 2.7 (9stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 67mm ND 2.7 (9stops) Filter | Extend exposure in bright light
Its fixed nine-stop light reduction is what sets the Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 67mm ND 2.7 Filter apart: it lets you use much longer exposures without changing the scene’s lighting. It suits photographers who want motion to show in a frame, especially when daylight would otherwise force a fast shutter speed. Think flowing water rendered as a soft blur, or clouds moving across a landscape during a long exposure. The filter can also help when you want a slower shutter speed in a bright setting, though the exact exposure depends on the light and your camera settings. This is a straightforward option if you know you want a strong, fixed reduction rather than an adjustable one. The 67mm size is relevant when matching it to a lens; it’s the filter diameter, so the lens needs a matching 67mm filter thread.
Specialist Note
The Firecrest ND 67mm ND 2.7 is made for turning daylight into long-exposure time. Its nine-stop reduction gives you a clear calculation: keep aperture and ISO the same, and a metered 1/500 sec exposure becomes about 1 sec with the filter in place. That’s a practical starting point for softening moving water or giving clouds time to drift through the frame. I’d take a test exposure and adjust from there, since the light and motion in your scene matter. The 67mm diameter suits a lens with a 67mm filter thread. One thing to plan for: a one-second exposure needs a steady camera, so use a tripod or another firm support.
