Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 95mm Neutral Density 0.6 (2 Stops)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 95mm Neutral Density 0.6 (2 Stops) | Gain two stops of exposure control
To make moving water blur or clouds drift through a frame, you need to control how much light reaches the sensor while keeping your chosen aperture and ISO. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 95mm Neutral Density 0.6 (2 Stops) reduces the exposure by two stops, giving you room to use a slower shutter speed in the same light. That’s useful when a scene is too bright for the motion effect you want, or when you want to open the aperture without letting in as much light. It’s a straightforward tool for landscape photographers and anyone who deliberately works with shutter speed. The 95mm size is for setups that take a 95mm filter. This is a modest reduction rather than a strong ND filter, so it gives you some extra control without being the answer to every bright-light, long-exposure situation.
Specialist Note
Bright conditions can leave you with a shutter speed that freezes every ripple, even when you want water to soften into a blur. This filter’s two-stop reduction gives you four times the exposure time at the same aperture and ISO: if your meter reads 1/30 sec without it, you can use about 1/8 sec with the filter. That’s a practical starting point for smoothing a stream or adding movement to a small waterfall. The 95mm size suits lenses or holders made for that filter diameter, so match the size to your setup. I’d choose it for a modest extension; for much longer exposures in bright sun, two stops may not be enough.
