Freewell Osmo Pocket 4p ND8 Filter - Black
Freewell Osmo Pocket 4p ND8 Filter - Black | Control light in bright scenes
Its defining optical choice is ND8: this is a neutral-density filter made to reduce the light entering the camera, which is useful when a bright scene makes exposure harder to manage. The Freewell Osmo Pocket 4p ND8 Filter is a small, purpose-specific accessory for people filming with the Osmo Pocket 4p who want more control over their footage in strong daylight. It’s particularly suited to outdoor video, from a walk through a sunny town to movement captured under a clear midday sky. With less light reaching the lens, you have more room to use a slower shutter speed for a more natural-looking sense of motion, rather than letting bright conditions dictate your settings. It’s a focused tool, not an all-purpose filter: its benefit is most relevant when there’s plenty of light to work with. The black finish keeps the look understated.
When to use it
Keep it in mind for bright outdoor scenes where you’d like to manage motion rendering as well as exposure. Once it’s in place, adjust your shutter speed to suit the movement in the scene, then check that the image isn’t too dark. A passing cyclist or people walking across a sunlit square are practical subjects to try. In softer light, a filter that reduces incoming light may work against you, so this one is best reserved for brighter conditions.
Specialist Note
At midday, a skateboarder cuts across a bright concrete plaza, and that’s when this ND8 filter earns its place. For the Osmo Pocket 4p owner who wants motion to look less choppy in strong light, I’d use it while filming the action and choose a slower shutter speed to suit the movement. The ND8 designation tells you this is a light-reducing filter, so it’s most useful when daylight is plentiful. Its black finish is a restrained look for an accessory that stays close to the camera. One honest caveat: in dim conditions, reducing the light further can be unhelpful, so I’d save it for bright scenes.
