Ilford DP100 7x17IN 25 | Photo paper for wide-format prints

Ilford DP100 7x17IN 25 is photo paper in a distinctive 7 × 17 inch format, made for photographers planning unusually wide prints. That long shape suits panoramic scenes and other images where a standard, squarer frame would change the composition. If you print your own photographs and already have a wide image in mind, this format gives you a specific print shape to work towards. It can also be a useful starting point when you’re deciding how to crop an image for display. The product name includes “25”; that designation is part of the title. This listing is for photo paper, rather than a printer or scanner. The honest point to keep in mind is that the format is quite specialised: it makes most sense when the image and the space where you’ll show it both suit a long, narrow print.

A format for wide prints

The 7:17 proportions work out to roughly 2.4:1, so the paper is much wider than it is tall. That gives a panoramic composition room to stretch across the frame, but it also makes framing choices matter. A photograph composed for a conventional rectangular print may need cropping to fit this shape; a scene with a naturally wide view can use the format more directly. Think about the final image before you print, especially if you’re preparing a series and want the prints to share a consistent look.

For a shop display, portfolio or personal project, the fixed dimensions make it easier to plan the finished print and its place on a wall. You can judge the proportions against the image on screen, then decide whether the composition feels balanced at this size. The paper’s name identifies the Ilford DP100 range and the 7x17IN format. There’s no need to treat it as a general-purpose paper size: it’s a format-led option for work that benefits from a deliberately wide presentation.
