Kowa Spotting Scope TSN66A Prominar

Kowa Spotting Scope TSN-66A Prominar - 66mm fluorite crystal objective

For birdwatching, the Kowa Spotting Scope TSN-66A Prominar brings distant plumage into clear view through a 66mm objective, with a fluorite crystal element at its heart. This kit includes the TE-11WZ II WA zoom eyepiece, covering 25x to 60x magnification, so you can move from a wide view of a bird in its surroundings to closer detail. Its compact 36.5cm body and 1,500g weight make it a manageable option for walks and travel, while the waterproof, nitrogen-filled construction is suited to outdoor use. The same reach is useful for watching aircraft and for observing wildlife across open ground. Kowa’s fluorite optics and XD glass are chosen to keep colour fringing very low, preserving natural-looking colours across the view. A dual-focus control gives you a fast coarse adjustment followed by finer control when you want to bring a small or distant subject into crisp focus.

Glass and coating

• Fluorite crystal objective: This low-dispersion element is paired with specially selected glass to reduce chromatic aberration. That means less coloured fringing around high-contrast edges, such as a dark bird against a bright sky.
• XD glass in the eyepiece: Two XD lenses in the TE-11WZ II eyepiece contribute to sharp, well-defined views throughout its zoom range.
• Kowa KR coating: The protective KR coating adds a layer of defence for the optical surfaces, useful when the scope is regularly taken outdoors.
• Magnesium alloy body: The 100% magnesium alloy construction keeps weight down while providing a strong housing for carrying the scope on outings.
• Dual-speed focusing: Coarse and fine focus controls give you a quick way to find the subject, then make a more precise adjustment for critical detail.

Size and fit

The scope has a 72mm filter thread, a detail worth noting when selecting a filter. Kowa includes a cap for the objective lens and a separate cap for the eyepiece, so both ends have their own cover when the scope is packed away. The listed package contents identify the caps, but don’t specify any additional filter or stacking accessories.
