Matin Rubber Lens Hood 48mm M-6231
Matin Rubber Lens Hood 48mm M-6231 | Helps keep stray light off your lens
Stray light coming in from the side can cause unwanted flare and reduce contrast in a photograph. The Matin Rubber Lens Hood M-6231 is a simple way to shade the front of a lens, helping keep that off-axis light from reaching the glass. It’s suited to photographers who want a straightforward hood for situations such as shooting outdoors in bright conditions or working near a sunny window. The hood is made of rubber and has a 48mm size designation, so those details are the ones to use when deciding whether it suits your setup. Its black finish keeps the look understated. A lens hood won’t remove every source of flare, but it can help when the troublesome light is coming from outside the frame. For a small, practical accessory, that’s a useful job.
Specialist Note
“Is the 48mm Matin M-6231 a sensible option for shading a lens? Yes, if the 48mm sizing matches the connection you need. I’d use it when a bright window or low sun is just outside the picture: keep that light out of the frame and let the hood shade the lens from the side. The rubber construction gives it a softer feel than a rigid hood, which can be reassuring when the front of the lens comes close to other things in your bag. It’s a focused accessory, though; if the bright source is in the frame, the hood can’t block it.”
