Meyer Optik Görlitz Biotar 75 f/1.5 II Micro Four Thirds
Meyer Optik Görlitz Biotar 75 f/1.5 II Micro Four Thirds | A fast aperture for portraits
At a portrait session in fading daylight, a lens with a wide maximum aperture can give you more room to work without immediately reaching for extra light. The Meyer Optik Görlitz Biotar 75 f/1.5 II is a telephoto lens for Micro Four Thirds, with a 75mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/1.5. That wide opening is useful when you want to keep shooting as the light drops, and it can help separate a person from a less tidy background. It suits portrait photographers and anyone who likes making close, deliberate compositions of details. The focal length encourages you to choose your framing from a little farther back than with a wider lens, which can make it easier to keep the subject as the clear focus of the picture. It’s a specialist lens for considered framing, rather than a general-purpose option.
Choosing your working distance
Think about the space you’ll usually have around your subject. A telephoto view is handy when you want to isolate a face or a small detail, but in a cramped room you may not be able to step back far enough for the framing you want. For portraits, give yourself room to adjust your position before settling on a composition.
Specialist Note
If a portrait feels too wide and busy, this lens gives you a way to make the subject take priority. I’d consider it for photographers who enjoy portrait work or picking out details, especially when the available light is falling. At f/1.5, you can open the aperture to work with less light; for a close portrait, take care with your point of focus because the sharp area can become quite selective. The 75mm focal length also asks for a bit of working room, so it’s less convenient in a tight space. If you have room to move, that’s part of what makes its framing useful.
