Meyer Optik Görlitz Lydith 30mm f/3.5 II Leica M-Mount
Meyer Optik Görlitz Lydith 30mm f/3.5 II Leica M-Mount | A thoughtful lens for street and travel
The 30mm wide-angle view gives this prime lens a distinctive place among Leica M lenses: it takes in more of a scene than a standard perspective without making the surroundings feel like the whole story. It suits photographers who enjoy composing deliberately and adjusting focus themselves, especially for street photographs and travel scenes where people and place both matter. The Lydith is an interchangeable lens with a Leica M mount and manual focus, so it’s for photographers who want to set focus directly rather than rely on autofocus. Its f/3.5 maximum aperture is a practical match for everyday shooting, though it isn’t an especially bright lens for very dim conditions. For city walks, architectural details and environmental portraits, the 30mm view gives you room to include context while keeping your subject central.
Specialist Note
30mm gives you a comfortably wide view for street scenes: you can include a person and enough of the setting to tell us where the moment is happening. I’d use it for a market street or a travel scene, taking a moment to focus manually before the action unfolds. At f/3.5, you have some flexibility as daylight fades, but I wouldn’t choose it expecting very soft, strongly blurred backgrounds or effortless shooting in dark interiors. It suits Leica M photographers who like to work with intention and want a compact-feeling perspective in their compositions, rather than relying on autofocus to catch a passing moment.
