Meyer Optik Görlitz Primoplan 75 f/1.9 II Leica R
Meyer Optik Görlitz Primoplan 75 f/1.9 II Leica R | A bright short telephoto for expressive portraits
At a portrait session, you may want a tighter view of your subject without stepping right up to them. The Meyer Optik Görlitz Primoplan 75 f/1.9 II is a 75mm telephoto lens for the Leica R system, with a maximum aperture of f/1.9. That combination suits photographers who like working with a close, deliberate composition and want the option of a shallow depth of field. The wide maximum aperture also lets more light reach the camera than a smaller aperture would, which can be useful in dimmer settings. It’s a lens to consider for portraits and carefully framed details, rather than a single lens for every scene: the 75mm focal length gives a particular, tighter perspective. If that’s the viewpoint you want, the Primoplan brings it together with a bright f/1.9 aperture in a Leica R fit.
Specialist Note
When a wider view keeps pulling attention away from a face, this 75mm gives you a more focused way to frame the subject. I’d consider it for portraits where you want a close composition, or for isolating a detail without turning the picture into a wide scene. At f/1.9, you can work with a shallow depth of field; take care to place focus precisely on the part of the subject you want sharp. It also admits more light than a smaller aperture, which can help indoors. This suits Leica R photographers who enjoy making deliberate framing choices. The trade-off is that 75mm is a specific, tighter viewpoint, not an all-purpose wide view.
