Nikon HB-61 Lens Hood For AF-S 40mm f/2.8
Nikon HB-61 Lens Hood For AF-S 40mm f/2.8 | Keep stray light at bay
Keep bright light coming from the side from washing across the front of the lens, so your subject retains clearer contrast in the frame. The Nikon HB-61 Lens Hood is made for the AF-S 40mm f/2.8, giving that specific lens a dedicated hood for outdoor scenes, portraits near a bright window and other situations with light just outside your composition. It’s a straightforward accessory for photographers who use this lens and want to manage stray light without shading the lens with a hand. A hood is most helpful when the light source is near, but not in, the picture; it won’t change the lens’s focal length or aperture. The HB-61 is black, so it keeps a simple, low-key look alongside the lens. If you use the AF-S 40mm f/2.8 regularly, this is the hood identified for it.
Specialist Note
The HB-61 shades the AF-S 40mm f/2.8 more neatly than trying to block side light with your hand. For a portrait with a bright window just outside the frame, fit the hood and keep that light source out of the picture; it can help preserve contrast on your subject. The 40mm focal length makes this a natural fit for everyday scenes where you want some surroundings in the frame, while the lens’s f/2.8 aperture gives you room to work in lower light. I’d leave the hood on for street scenes too, especially when light is striking from an angle. It’s a specific match for this lens, rather than a general-purpose accessory.
