On-camera flash keeps the light close to the lens; the PocketWizard Flex TT5 Nikon moves flash placement off-camera and communicates by radio. This Nikon i-TTL transceiver can work as the camera-side transmitter or as a receiver on a flash, so you can place compatible Nikon flash units around a portrait or product setup. Radio triggering reaches into corners and works where infrared signals can be obstructed, including bright sunlight. For portraits, place a flash to one side or behind the subject to shape the light while retaining TTL communication; for product photography, position a flash out of sight to control reflections and shadows. With a compatible Nikon flash, High Speed Sync supports shutter speeds up to 1/8000 sec, in TTL or manual operation. The patented HyperSync feature also supports faster synchronisation with studio flashes. And when you’re using manual flash units, the Flex TT5 can trigger them too, including as part of a PocketWizard radio setup. It’s a versatile trigger for photographers who need to position light precisely, rather than keep every flash on the camera.

How it controls light

• Auto-sensing transceiver: The Flex TT5 detects its role as a transmitter on the camera or a receiver at the flash. That means one unit type can serve either position in your lighting setup.
• Nikon i-TTL communication: With a compatible Nikon camera and flash, TTL exposure information travels over the radio link. You can also trigger manual flashes, so TTL and manually controlled lights can be used in the same scene.
• High Speed Sync up to 1/8000 sec: With a compatible Nikon flash, HSS works in both TTL and manual modes. It’s useful when a fast shutter speed is part of your portrait lighting setup.
• HyperSync for studio flash: PocketWizard’s HyperSync technology supports faster synchronisation with studio flashes. This gives you another option when your setup uses studio lighting rather than a Nikon speedlight.
• Regional radio bands and channels: The CE version operates at 433.42–434.42 MHz, while the FCC/IC version uses 340.00–354.00 MHz. Channel selection varies by version: 35 channels across 5 frequencies for CE, or 52 channels across 26 frequencies for FCC/IC.
• Flexible positioning: The rubber-coated antenna turns through 180 degrees, and the unit has a hot-shoe foot plus a 1/4-20 mounting point. You can position it on a camera, stand or other supported mounting point.
• USB connection: A Mini-B USB 2.0 connection supports linking the unit to a computer. It’s a useful connection to have available alongside the radio and mounting options.
