PolarPro 135 Series - Chroma CP Filter - 49mm
PolarPro 135 Series - Chroma CP Filter - 49mm: Cut reflections and deepen contrast
Glare on water, glass or a car can wash out detail and colour. The PolarPro 135 Series Chroma CP Filter is a 49mm circular polarising filter that reduces reflections and adds contrast and colour depth to a scene. That makes it useful for landscapes, where skies and foliage can look more vivid, and for architecture, where reflections can distract from a building’s surfaces. Its Chroma glass is rated to support resolutions up to 8K, so detail stays crisp for high-resolution digital photography; the filter also suits film photography. The colour rendering is described as neutral, keeping the filter’s effect focused on glare and contrast rather than an obvious colour cast. Part of PolarPro’s 135 Series, it pairs modern filter glass with a retro film-inspired presentation. For a photographer who moves between reflective subjects and high-contrast scenes, it’s a purposeful filter with a clear job to do.
What the filter changes
- Circular polarising effect: Reducing reflections from cars, buildings and water brings more of the subject’s surface back into view. It’s also useful for richer contrast in black-and-white scenes.
- Chroma glass: The optical glass is specified for resolutions up to 8K. That keeps it relevant for detailed digital images, while the filter is also made for film users.
- Neutral colour: A neutral tint avoids adding a deliberate warm or cool look to the image, so the filter’s contribution is contrast and colour depth.
- Protective coating: The surface is described as resistant to fingerprints and scratches, helping keep everyday handling marks from becoming a distraction.
- 6061 aluminium construction: The weather-resistant frame and filter housing use this aluminium alloy, giving the filter a durable metal surround for use in changing conditions.
Specialist Note
At a 49mm-threaded lens aimed across a canal, I’d reach for this CP filter when reflections are hiding detail beneath the water’s surface. Its stated light reduction is 1.6 to 2.7 stops, so allow for that change when setting exposure; that’s worth bearing in mind in dim conditions. I also like the 135 Series’ film-canister-style presentation: the filter comes with a case, and the cap carries a Sunny 16 reference card for a quick exposure reminder. It’s a characterful match for film shooters, while the Chroma glass and 8K resolution rating make sense for high-resolution digital work too.
