PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 6-9 - Gold Mist - 82mm - McKinnon Series
PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 6-9 - Gold Mist - 82mm - McKinnon Series | Control exposure with a warm, softened look
Without a filter, you usually manage exposure first and create a warmer, softer finish later. This PolarPro combines variable neutral density and polarizing functions with a Gold Mist look, bringing those choices together while you shoot. It’s aimed at filmmakers and photographers who want to shape bright scenes and add a gentle golden quality in-camera, rather than relying entirely on post-processing. The variable density is useful when light levels change but you want to keep your chosen exposure settings; the polarizing function can help manage reflections and glare. Gold Mist gives the image a softer, warmer character, making it a considered option for portraits, outdoor video and scenes with bright highlights. It’s a specialist effect rather than a neutral everyday filter, so it suits you best when that distinct look is part of your plan.
Choosing the look
For reflective surfaces such as water or glass, adjust the polarizing effect while watching the scene so you can judge how much glare you want to reduce. For a softer golden treatment, pay attention to bright highlights and skin tones as you frame; the effect is part of the image, not a correction you can switch off afterwards. That makes this filter particularly appealing when you want a consistent look across a sequence, but less suited to work where colour and contrast must stay completely neutral.
Specialist Note
“Can I use the Chroma VND/PL 6-9 Gold Mist to keep a video shutter setting in bright daylight?” Yes—with its 6–9-stop range, it can cut substantial light while you hold your chosen shutter speed, which is useful when you want motion to look consistent rather than letting the shutter climb. The 82mm size means you’ll need a lens with a matching filter thread. I’d consider it for outdoor video or portraits where you want that warmer, softened rendering in-camera. One honest point: this is a strong exposure range, so it’s less suited to situations that need only a small reduction in light.
