PolarPro Lightleak - 50mm - Sony E
PolarPro Lightleak - 50mm - Sony E: Add switchable light-leak character to digital images
Add a controllable spill of light and a film-like finish to digital stills or video with the PolarPro Lightleak - 50mm - Sony E. This 50mm attachment lens fits Sony E cameras and pairs rich colour with natural-looking grain, while its light-leak effect can be switched on or off. The result is an in-camera treatment with a deliberately irregular character, rather than a clean, uniform rendering. Use the effect for individual photographs where the light leak should become part of the composition, or switch it off for a more restrained frame while keeping the lens’s colour and grain character. For video, it brings the same visual treatment to a run of clips, useful when you want a consistent look across a short sequence. Its fixed-focus range runs from 1 metre to infinity, so it works with subjects at that distance and farther away. With a fixed f/11 aperture, this is a specialised creative lens rather than an all-purpose optic.
Image character and design
- Switchable light leak: Turn the effect on or off to choose when visible light leakage appears. That gives you two distinct treatments from the same lens.
- Film-inspired colour and grain: Rich colour and natural-looking grain add texture to digital photographs and footage. The character comes from the lens as you shoot.
- Fixed f/11 aperture: The aperture stays at f/11, with no aperture adjustment on the lens. Keep that constant setting in mind when setting exposure.
- Fixed focus, 1 metre to infinity: The focus range covers subjects from 1m away through distant scenes. It isn’t intended for close-up details.
- Lightweight aluminium housing: The lens has an aluminium body, combining a metal exterior with a lightweight construction for your camera setup.
- 58mm filter compatibility: Compatible 58mm filters can be fitted, so you can add a filter to the front of the lens when your setup calls for one.
Specialist Note
A switchable light leak at capture is the job this lens handles more directly than adding an effect clip by clip in post. I like that you can decide frame by frame: leave the effect off for a quieter passage, then switch it on when you want that visible interruption in a still or a video shot. The fixed f/11 aperture means exposure stays tied to that setting, so plan around it rather than expecting to open the lens in dim conditions. Its fixed-focus range starts at 1 metre; try it for street scenes or a person framed in their surroundings, keeping close details out of the composition. That clear creative role is part of its appeal.
