PolarPro Quartzline ND8 Filter 67 mm
PolarPro Quartzline ND8 Filter 67 mm | Slow the shutter in bright light
Give moving water a softer, flowing look in daylight, or keep a wider aperture when the scene is too bright for your preferred exposure. The PolarPro Quartzline ND8 Filter 67 mm is a neutral-density filter that reduces the light reaching the camera by three stops. That lets you use a slower shutter speed without changing the scene’s lighting, which is especially useful for landscapes with streams, fountains or drifting clouds. It also gives you more room to choose your aperture in bright conditions instead of stopping down simply to control exposure. This filter suits photographers who want to make those exposure choices outdoors, where strong light can otherwise limit shutter speed and aperture. The effect is fixed at three stops, so it’s a considered option for moderate light reduction rather than very long exposures in strong sun. Match the filter’s 67 mm diameter to the filter thread on your lens.
Specialist Note
The ND8 makes a slower shutter practical in bright conditions without forcing you to close the aperture as far. For a stream, if your meter calls for 1/125 sec without the filter, three stops of reduction brings that to about 1/15 sec at the same aperture and ISO—a useful starting point for softening the water. Its 67 mm diameter is the key fit detail: it suits a lens with a matching 67 mm filter thread, so check the lens marking before you buy. I’d recommend it to landscape photographers who want a simple, measured exposure change. One limit: three stops may not be enough for very long exposures under strong midday sun.
