The Laowa Proteus 2X Anamorphic 100mm T2 lens - Silver (Meters) (LAO-100P-S-PL) features the perfect elixir of modern sharpness, a vintage anamorphic style, and spherical components. This synthesis produces a mesmerizing elliptical bokeh and a characteristic flaring.
Both anamorphic and spherical groups are fixed within the lens. To achieve the precise focus, a variable spherical front glass is employed. This lens borrows its optical design from giants like Vantage Hawks, Cooke Anamorphic, and Atlas Orion. When decompressed, this lens with a compression ratio of 2X gives you a 2.66:1 on a 4:3 sensor and 2.4:1 on a 6:5 sensor, yielding a 2.39:1 aspect ratio, thereby rendering a sought-after ultra-wide cinematic appeal inherent in the film industry.
The lens maintenance of a constant compression ratio at any focusing distance aids in avoiding anamorphic distortion.
The Proteus's T2 aperture allows shooting in low-light conditions and creates a shallow depth of field with a cascade-like transition to blur. The bokeh in the 2X compression ratio appears significantly thinner and elongated.
Flare Color Options and Features
Like the Nanomorph series, the Proteus series is also available in three distinctive flare colors: classic sci-fi blue, warm and classy amber, and neutral silver, each catering to particular film genres. This silver version's flare color changes depending on the light source.
