Rodenstock HR Digital Circ Pol 52
Rodenstock HR Digital Circ Pol 52 | Control reflections and sky tones
Reflections on glass or water can distract from the subject, and a bright sky can lose depth in a photograph. The Rodenstock HR Digital Circ Pol 52 is a circular polarizing filter for adjusting those effects while you compose. Rotate the filter and watch the reflections change; with the right angle, a polarizer can also deepen the appearance of a blue sky. It’s suited to photographers who want direct control over reflected light in scenes such as shop windows, lakesides or open landscapes. The filter’s black colour keeps its appearance understated on the front of a lens. Its name includes the 52 size designation, so use that when matching the filter to the size marked for your lens. The effect depends on the light and your shooting angle, so small adjustments as you look through the camera are more useful than setting it once and forgetting it.
Specialist Note
A polarizer does cost you some light, so it isn’t the filter I’d leave on for every situation. It’s still a considered pick when reflections are getting between you and the picture. Because this is a circular polarizer, turn it while looking at the scene: for a window display, adjust until the glare is reduced enough to reveal what’s behind the glass; for a landscape, watch the sky as you rotate it and stop where the effect looks natural. The 52 in the name is the size designation to match with your lens. If you often photograph through glass or around water, those simple adjustments can make this filter especially relevant.
