Rodenstock Variond Extended 67

Rodenstock Variond Extended 67 | Shape exposure in bright conditions

Moving water can take on a softer blur, and passing clouds can trace a longer path across the frame, when you use a neutral-density filter to make a longer exposure. The Rodenstock Variond Extended 67 is a gray ND filter for photographers who want more control over exposure in bright conditions. It reduces the light reaching the camera, giving you room to choose a slower shutter speed when the scene would otherwise be too bright for that setting. That makes it useful for deliberate motion effects and for managing exposure when you want to keep your chosen aperture. The result depends on the scene and the exposure you select; the filter is a way to gain control, not a preset look. If you enjoy making considered choices about movement and exposure, this is a straightforward tool to add to your kit.

For a flowing-water effect, choose a slower shutter speed and keep the camera steady; the filter gives you more exposure latitude in daylight. For a calmer, less literal rendering of movement, try the same approach with clouds or other moving subjects. An ND filter doesn’t create blur on its own: the shutter speed and the movement in your scene determine how it looks.
