Rycote 18cm Super-Softie (24/25)
Rycote 18cm Super-Softie (24/25) | Wind protection for microphone recording
The Rycote 18cm Super-Softie (24/25) is an 18cm microphone windscreen for recording where wind can interfere with sound. It’s intended for sound recordists and video makers who need a windscreen in this specific Super-Softie size and designation. Use it when recording speech outdoors, such as an interview or a piece to camera, and wind around the microphone is a concern. The 18cm format gives you a clear size reference when choosing the right accessory for your setup; the “24/25” part of the name also helps identify this version. It’s a focused piece of microphone kit rather than a general-purpose audio accessory. If you already work with Rycote Super-Softies, the name makes it easier to distinguish this version from other sizes. The finish is black, a restrained look for on-camera work.
Specialist Note
Once it’s in place, a Super-Softie lets you concentrate on the recording instead of constantly worrying about wind reaching the microphone. I’d consider this version for outdoor interviews or location dialogue where wind is a factor; use the 18cm size as your guide when matching it to the setup you have in mind. The black finish is discreet beside most camera and audio gear, though it may be more visible against a light-coloured set. It’s a specific size and designation, so I’d keep the full “18cm (24/25)” name handy when selecting this particular version.
