Rycote 5cm SGM Foam (19/22) (10 Pack)
Rycote 5cm SGM Foam (19/22) (10 Pack) | Helps tame light wind noise on SGM microphones
Cleaner dialogue in a light breeze is easier to capture with a foam cover over the microphone. The Rycote 5cm SGM Foam is a microphone accessory for sound recordists who want a simple way to soften mild wind noise when recording speech. It suits interview, documentary and location audio work where a bulky windshield would get in the way. The ten-pack format is handy for regular use: you can keep replacement foam available or prepare several microphones for a session. It’s a straightforward accessory rather than a full wind-protection system, so its best role is helping with gentle air movement during close speech recording. If you record outdoors often, it can be part of your kit for calmer conditions, while stronger wind calls for more substantial protection.
Specialist Note
People buying their first foam mic cover sometimes expect it to defeat every gust; this one is better suited to mild air movement than blustery conditions. The 5cm size keeps the foam cover compact around an SGM microphone, which is useful when you want speech recording without a large windshield in the way. Pay attention to the 19/22 sizing when choosing it for your setup: that marking is the key fit detail, not a promise of universal fit. I’d consider it for close interview dialogue or location speech in calmer weather. For strong wind, pair it with more substantial wind protection rather than asking a small foam cover to do too much.
