Rycote 5cm SGM Foam & Windjammer (19/22)
Rycote 5cm SGM Foam & Windjammer (19/22) | Compact wind protection for SGM microphones
Wind buffeting can turn a clear outdoor recording into a distracting one. The Rycote 5cm SGM Foam & Windjammer is a compact cover combination for addressing that problem, bringing foam and a Windjammer together in a 5cm SGM format. It’s intended for people working with an SGM microphone who want a dedicated way to manage wind around the mic. The short format suits spoken dialogue, interviews and location sound where a little breeze can creep into a recording. Foam and the Windjammer provide the two parts of this product’s wind-cover setup, while the 19/22 designation identifies the version. It’s a focused accessory rather than a cure for every outdoor condition: in strong gusts, choosing a more sheltered position still matters. For everyday breezy recording, it offers a compact option to consider.
Specialist Note
“Will the 5cm SGM Foam & Windjammer help when I’m recording outdoors?” Yes; it’s a dedicated, compact cover combination for managing wind around an SGM microphone. The 5cm format keeps the covered section short, which makes sense for a close, controlled interview setup. The foam is part of the cover, and the Windjammer adds the wind-focused element when air movement is the concern. For spoken dialogue on a breezy location, I’d use the combination and keep the mic as sheltered as your framing allows. Its short coverage isn’t a substitute for finding shelter in strong gusts, but it’s a considered option when you want wind protection in a compact format.
