Rycote Hi Wind Cover 3
Rycote Hi Wind Cover 3 | Wind protection for microphone recording
On a breezy outdoor interview, wind hitting a microphone can become an unwanted part of the recording. The Rycote Hi Wind Cover 3 is a microphone accessory intended to help shield the microphone from wind. It suits people recording speech or sound outdoors who want a cover specifically described for high-wind use. The name tells you its role, but it doesn’t tell you which microphones it fits, so the exact fit matters when choosing one. Think of it as a focused piece of recording kit: it addresses wind around the microphone, rather than changing the microphone’s sound character or recording settings. That makes it relevant for outdoor dialogue, location recording and other situations where moving air is a concern. It’s a practical item to consider when wind is getting in the way, though no cover can make a windy location acoustically quiet.
Specialist Note
A cover placed around a microphone gives moving air a barrier to meet before it reaches the capsule; that’s the useful idea behind the Rycote Hi Wind Cover 3. The “Hi Wind” wording makes its intended job clear: managing wind during microphone recording, rather than adding another recording control or changing your settings. I’d consider it for an outdoor interview or location sound where speech needs to remain the focus. Keep the microphone aimed and positioned for the voice, then use the cover as the wind-facing protection. One honest point: the product name alone doesn’t identify a matching microphone, so don’t treat the “3” as a universal size.
