Rycote Hi Wind Cover 8
Rycote Hi Wind Cover 8 | Help keep wind off your microphone
The defining choice is a dedicated wind cover, made to help manage wind at the microphone rather than leaving the mic exposed to moving air. The Rycote Hi Wind Cover 8 is for people recording where a breeze could become an unwanted part of the sound: location recordists, interviewers and anyone working with a microphone outdoors. Its name points to wind protection as the job, so this is an accessory to consider before recording in exposed conditions, not a general-purpose microphone add-on. Use it when wind is a concern, and keep the setup focused on capturing the intended voice or sound. The “8” is part of the model name; use the full name when identifying this particular cover. There’s no material or fit detail available here to guide a more specific pairing, so I’d match it to your microphone by the exact product designation before relying on it for a recording.
Specialist Note
Set the wind cover up before you start recording and you can put less attention on the breeze once the take begins. That’s the practical appeal of the Hi Wind Cover 8: it’s named specifically as a wind cover, so it makes sense for outdoor voice recording or location sound where wind on the microphone is a concern. I’d treat “8” as the identifier for this version, not as a size measurement, and use the full model name when matching it to your mic. It suits recordists who want to address wind at the microphone itself; it won’t remove other outdoor sounds, so choose a quieter position as well when you can.
