Rycote Mini Windjammer For Red VideoMic Pro Rycote
Rycote Mini Windjammer for RØDE VideoMic Pro+ - synthetic-fur wind cover
Cleaner outdoor audio starts with keeping wind noise off the microphone. The Rycote Mini Windjammer for the RØDE VideoMic Pro+ is a synthetic-fur windscreen that reduces wind noise, with up to 30 dB of additional sound isolation stated for the product. It’s made for owners of this specific microphone who record outside and want less wind in their audio, whether they’re filming an outdoor interview, capturing spoken dialogue on location or recording video in breezy conditions. The fur construction is the key detail: it forms a wind barrier around the mic while Rycote states that it doesn’t affect the sound quality. That makes the Mini Windjammer a focused accessory for outdoor recording, rather than a general microphone cover. It won’t change the microphone’s recording pattern or make a windy location silent, but it addresses one common source of unwanted noise in outdoor takes.
Why it is useful
- Made for the VideoMic Pro+: The Mini Windjammer is specified for the RØDE VideoMic Pro+. Its stated fit keeps the accessory relevant to owners of this microphone.
- Synthetic-fur construction: The fur forms the windscreen around the microphone. It’s the material behind the product’s wind-reducing purpose.
- Up to 30 dB additional sound isolation: This is the maximum reduction stated for the windscreen. It’s useful to know when comparing wind protection for outdoor recording.
- Reduces wind noise: Wind noise can distract from speech and other recorded sound. The Mini Windjammer is made to reduce that interference during outdoor takes.
- Sound quality retained: Rycote’s product description says the windscreen reduces wind noise without affecting sound quality, an important point when clear recorded audio matters.
Specialist Note
New owners of compact microphones sometimes expect the mic itself to keep gusts out of a recording; this Mini Windjammer adds a synthetic-fur barrier for the VideoMic Pro+. I’d consider it for outdoor interviews or location dialogue, where wind noise can quickly distract from what’s being said. The stated reduction is up to 30 dB, so it’s a useful level of protection to have in mind, though it isn’t a promise of silent audio in every condition. Rycote also says the cover doesn’t affect sound quality, which is reassuring when the goal is simply to cut wind noise while keeping the recording natural.
