Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW1-BA
Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW1-BA | Help keep wind off your microphone
Reducing wind noise at the microphone can keep an outdoor interview or spoken recording clearer and easier to listen to. The Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW1-BA is a microphone accessory for that job; NW1-BA is the specific model designation. Wind hitting a microphone can add a low, distracting rumble that competes with speech. A windjammer is intended to limit that problem at the source, rather than relying on editing to deal with it later. It suits location sound and other recording where the microphone is exposed to moving air, especially when clear voices matter more than capturing the sound of the wind itself. Use it when recording outdoors in a breeze, and keep the microphone positioned for the voice or sound you want to capture. The benefit is focused: it addresses wind reaching the microphone, not every source of unwanted sound in a recording.
Specialist Note
For outdoor dialogue, the NW1-BA tackles wind at the microphone rather than leaving you to try to tame wind rumble afterwards. The Windjammer name makes its job clear: it’s meant to help with wind, so I’d consider it for an interview or spoken location recording where a breeze could distract from the voice. “Nano-Shield” and “NW1-BA” are useful details when you’re identifying this exact Rycote item, rather than searching for a windjammer in general. Keep in mind that reducing wind isn’t the same as removing traffic, handling noise or room echo. It’s a focused accessory for one particular recording problem.
