The lens is designed for video and filmmaking, so it makes sense when you want to set focus deliberately rather than rely on autofocus. That approach takes practice, but it gives you direct control over where the viewer’s eye lands. If you’re building a manual-focus setup for planned shots, this lens gives you a clear, focused role in the kit.

“Is the Samyang 85mm T1.5 MkII Sony E suited to filming interviews? Yes, especially when you can set your camera and subject in place and focus with intention. The T1.5 maximum aperture lets you work with a bright image in dimmer scenes, and it can keep the background less distracting when focus is set carefully. Manual focus means you’ll need to turn focus yourself, so I’d plan a take before asking for a moving subject to cross the frame. For a seated interview, mark the subject’s position and check focus before recording. On a Sony APS-C body, the view is equivalent to 127.5mm, so allow extra room to frame. That tighter framing is useful, but it can feel restrictive in a small room.”
