Schneider CF Diopter Spot 25 +1 138mm Drop
Schneider CF Diopter Spot 25 +1 138mm Drop | Selective close focus
The defining choice is the 138 mm drop format: it’s made to be placed into a compatible drop-in filter setup, rather than attached as a small screw-in filter. The Schneider CF Diopter Spot 25 +1 is a specialist close-focus optic for photographers and filmmakers who want a nearby subject to read sharply while keeping the rest of the composition at a different focus distance. Its +1 diopter strength gives a measured close-up effect, and the Spot 25 designation signals that this effect is confined to a spot rather than spread across the full image. That makes it useful for compositions that put foreground detail and a more distant subject together. It’s a considered tool for controlled, arranged shots, rather than a general-purpose filter for every scene. The 138 mm drop format is the key practical detail: choose it when that format suits your filter setup and you want selective close focus without turning the entire frame into a close-up.
Specialist Note
For filmmakers composing a face behind a nearby object, or photographers building a layered still life, this is the sort of filter I’d consider for a deliberately divided focus plane. The +1 strength gives the spot a modest close-focus effect, so place the near detail within it and keep your main subject outside that area to retain separation. The Spot 25 designation is central to the look: you’re working with a localised effect, not close focus across the whole frame. I’d plan the framing carefully, because that selective area asks for precision. It suits controlled compositions best; it isn’t the filter I’d reach for when I want the whole scene rendered close.
