Schneider CFG Rhodium FSND 0.9 HE 6.6x6.6
Schneider CFG Rhodium FSND 0.9 HE 6.6x6.6 | Control bright light for deliberate exposures
The 6.6x6.6 square format defines this Schneider filter: it gives photographers a broad, square filter surface for managing light as part of a planned shot. The Rhodium FSND 0.9 HE is a gray neutral-density filter, made for cinematographers and still photographers who want to reduce the light reaching the camera without changing the scene itself. That extra control can help when you want a slower shutter in bright conditions, or need to keep exposure in check while holding a particular aperture. It’s especially relevant for moving water, clouds and daylight filming, where exposure choices affect how movement is rendered. The appeal here is specific: a 0.9-density filter in a large square format, rather than a small round filter for everyday carry. It suits a considered workflow built around shaping exposure; it’s less compelling if you simply want a compact filter for occasional casual use.
Specialist Note
Cinematographers filming daylight exteriors or photographers working with moving water are the people I’d point toward this filter. Its 0.9 density gives about three stops of light reduction: for example, at the same ISO and aperture, a 1/125 sec exposure can become roughly 1/15 sec, letting water movement record with a softer sweep. The 6.6x6.6 format is a substantial square filter, so plan your setup around that format rather than expecting a little screw-on filter. For daylight video, those three stops can also give you more room to hold your chosen exposure settings. It’s a specialist-size tool, and that’s part of its purpose—not the one I’d choose for a pocket-sized kit.
