Sirui 40mm T1.8 1.33X S35 AF Anamorphic Lens (L Mount Blue Flare)

Sirui 40mm T1.8 1.33X S35 AF Anamorphic Lens (L Mount Blue Flare) | Cinematic widescreen framing for video

A dialogue scene or short film setup is where this lens earns its place: it brings an anamorphic look to a familiar 40mm focal length. The Sirui is an interchangeable autofocus lens for Leica L mount, designed for APS-C/S35 sensors and intended for video and filmmaking. Its 1.33X anamorphic design gives you a wider cinematic presentation after desqueezing in post, while the Blue Flare version brings a distinctive blue flare character to the image. That makes it a considered option for filmmakers shaping a particular visual style, rather than a general-purpose lens for every situation. Its 40mm focal length suits subjects and scenes where you want a natural-feeling perspective without stepping back to a wide view. For interviews, narrative work and carefully composed shots, it offers a focused way to build an anamorphic look into an L-mount video setup.

Specialist Note

For a dialogue setup, this Sirui gives you an anamorphic widescreen frame without relying on a crop to create width. At T1.8, you have more room to work in available light before raising ISO; that can be handy for a seated interview or a close scene in a dim location. The 1.33X squeeze is the key to the look, so plan to desqueeze the footage in post. I’d point it toward filmmakers who want that blue-flare character as part of the image, not just as an occasional effect. One practical limit: its 39° angle of view won’t make tight rooms or wide establishing shots easy.
