Sirui Astra Series 100mm T1.8 1.33X FullFrame Cine Lens (L Mount Blue Flare) | Anamorphic character for full-frame filmmaking

Tight framing can make it hard to bring a subject forward while keeping a distinctive widescreen look. The Sirui Astra Series 100mm is a short telephoto anamorphic cine prime for Leica L-mount full-frame cameras, with a 1.33x squeeze and blue-flare character. It’s aimed at filmmakers who want a more deliberate, cinematic image for portraits, dialogue scenes and carefully composed details, rather than a general-purpose lens for fast, casual coverage. At 100mm, it gives subjects a close, focused presence in the frame; the anamorphic design adds a different visual signature to the image. This is a manual-focus lens, so it suits a controlled filming style where you can set focus yourself and plan the shot. It’s most at home on a production where framing and focus are considered part of the look.

Specialist Note

Does the Astra 100mm make sense for a controlled film setup? Yes—especially if you want a portrait-length view with anamorphic character, rather than a lens for quick reframing. Its T1.8 maximum aperture gives you room to work in lower light and to keep the background softer; I’d start wide open for a close dialogue shot, then stop down if you need more of the face in focus. Manual focus is a good fit for planned focus pulls: rehearse the move between two marks and keep the camera and subject positions steady. This suits filmmakers making portraits, interviews or narrative scenes. One honest consideration: 100mm can feel tight in a small room, so it pairs better with space to position the camera.
